Overview

Atlassian announced on April 22, 2015 that their have acquired Blue Jimp the team responsible for Jitsi. Jitsi is an open source project that includes the WebRTC Jitsi Videobridge, among other technologies. The Jitsi Videobridge relays video rather than mixing it which provides improved scale with higher quality and lower latency. In order to maintain the spirit of Jitsi’s open source community, Atlassian and HipChat will continue to support and invest in the project.

About Jitsi
Jitsi is an audio/video Internet phone and instant messenger written in Java. It supports some of the most popular instant messaging and telephony protocols such as SIP, Jabber/XMPP (and hence Facebook and Google Talk), AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger. The development of Jitsi started at the University of Strasbourg, France. Originally the project was known as SIP Communicator.
