On July 5, 2016, Tellybean has closed the second part of a $750,000 angel round, the Finnish video calling startup said on Tuesday. The startup has built video calling app for smart TVs using smartphones cameras as wireless webcams.“This approach makes it possible for Tellybean to support many different platforms and technologies with very limited requirements on its partners,” the company said.It also gives Tellybean a technological edge to the competition, which will surely emerge in the future especially after signing major partnerships with Sony and Philips that provide visibility for Tellybean’s app on millions of SmartTV home screens. Its closest peer Skype has dropped developing a separate app for TVs after Microsoft acquired it.
Tellybean is driven by a few simple but powerful observations: modern life separates families and friends. To solve this problem, Tellybean offers an easy way to make life-sized video calls on the TV, to the people you care about. It’s simply Bigger, Better and Easier video calling for everyone. Tellybean was founded in 2011 and is based in Helsinki, Finland. It has an experienced, committed and diverse team who is passionate about easy video calling to everybody.
